Classic Car Insurance for a Modified Classic

I am having a bit of an issue with classic car insurance due to my age. I am 23 and want to buy/insure a 1981 Fiesta which was a 1.1L but has been restored to 1.6/XR2 spec. I have already spoken to Peter D James and Footman James and both have stipulated that I need to be over 25, which sucks considering I have had a full licence for 3 years.

BTW...

Before I get lolled at into oblivion for wanting another Fiesta, I am still replacing my main car and this will be a second car to take to shows and learn a bit of basic mechanics myself as they are very easy to work on, reasonable in price and will not depreciate in value.

Car in question:

Any help will be appreciated as I don't want to wait another 2 years

Adrian Flux and Brentacre would both be my first ports of call :)

Used AF for a long time, had very good experience with them. Never claimed though....

Not feeling that at all, especially the XR2 lights with no fogs, the grille and the awful bumpers. It looks like the sort of thing you used to get racing round Staines in the early 90s when people couldn't afford to insure more than a 1.1 Popular Plus. ;)

Also isn't there a fairly hefty scene tax on these now?

Thanks, I'll give those a go in a bit. Tried the others first as my dad had good quotes from them both.

It looks very clean and tasteful IRL, looks are easily adjusted anyway. The main thing is that the shell is rot free, the paintwork is good and the interior is spot on, those are the expensive things to put right. As for the scene tax, it's starting to get that way, I want to buy one before they start hitting stupid money hence me not wanting to wait till I'm 25 as no doubt they'll be stupidly expensive by then.

Wow, makes you wonder why anyone would scrap a car. If an old Fiesta can one day attract scene tax there is hope for every banger out there :p

AF would be my vote too, especially with anything modified.

What do these go for thesedays?

Never had a thing for the mk1s, I went through two mk2s when I was 17 and loved them.

Sad really as they were nothing but trouble at the time.

Anything old with a Ford badge seems to attract a stupid price tag, it's just an itch I want to scratch before prices get too out of hand for MK1 Fiestas.

They range from £1000 to anything up to £4,000.

Brilliant, the Mondeo can stay on the drive for another 10 years then.

Then I can sell it to somebody who just wants to scratch the 20 year old Ford itch :D

These things dont get better with age you know ;)

Here's some pics of my XR2 I had for a little while before deciding I hated FWD after years of RWD Fords (yes yes don't mention the green, this was 1993 after all)

I replaced the engine actually as the rings went on the old one. I ended up with a 1700 from Vulcan Engineering who were in the High Street in Ealing back then!

Ah I remember the Vulcan adverts for replacement and upgraded engines. I always wanted one in my XR2s but couldn't afford it.

Your mk1 must have been very nippy back then.

As has been said Adrian Flux, I've used them for years now & insured my heavily modded SJ with them & various other motors including my Polow. Just list the mods over the phone & they send you a confirmation form to sign which you can add any more mods you might have missed over the phone, they are superb when it comes to mods.

As for the old bull nose Fista it's got potentail that's for sure & the first thing I'd do would be change that front bumper. Looks well clean though & i like it.

I'll add my name to the list of happy Adrian Flux customers. Very understanding when it comes to mods and helpful over the phone too. Currently using them on a modded '86 Camaro and Clio 182. Previously covered my Manta, Cappucino, 190E, MR2, 309 GTi and Chevette all of them modded and all of them I could find no one cheaper than flux.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

It looks super clean, the current owner has obviously done it to his own taste but it has been a labour of love for the past 6 years and has done an outstanding job with it.

Firstly - nice Fiesta.

Secondly - another vote for Adrian Flux. Or Sureterm if they'll quote you.

I use Heritage, the Manta is heavily modified from standard, and the have always been cheap as chips.
This years premium was £159
