I have an old Duracell torch. It was a design classic (I think of the 1970s)

It has two AA cells in a rectangular box with a flip top which acts s the switch and houses the incandescent bulb (MES).

The only identifier is inside the case: "Regd Des No 1000442"

This little torch I have carried around the world and continue to find useful. It will stand by itself and shed useful light - a cylindrical torch will not do this.

I think this torch has a name, but I cannot remember it, and cannot find it on the internet. Has anyone a better memory, or a better search routine than I?

If I could find a name I might be lucky and find one on eBay.

Does anyone know of a similar modern product?

Are 3v LEDs available in Miniature Edison Screw for direct replacement of an incandescent bulb?

Bin it and get an LED torch, you won't look back. ;)

This little design classic will stand on a surface and its beam directed at will.

If there is a modern product that will do that I will gladly consider it.

My searches revealed a forum dedicated to Flashlights - who would have thought it?

Someone there will have answers for me, but if anyone in this place can pont me to a source for a replacement . . .

creepy thread.

the first post sounds like some kind of riddle.

It's a torch, you're on the internet. Really isn't hard.

used to have 2 of those 0_0

An award winning design classic. I think they became possible with the advent of mercury cells. 2 AA mercury cells could last as long as 2 zinc-carbon D cells in what was then the conventional torch.

O, I remember getting one (D cell zinc-carbon) for Christmas as a boy in the late 1950s. It had three sliders on the side to make it shine red, yellow or blue. What fun!
