OK, i have an aging Espana classical guitar (approx 20 years old) and the machine heads badly needed replacing. So, i googled as much info as i could find on replacing/fixing machine heads and ordered the TGI Classical Guitar Machine Heads TG441:
I know they're not particulary great quality but then neither is the guitar - but TBH for the money i paid they're not bad.
The problem:
However, when i came to fit the new machine heads it became clear that the 'rollers' were too big (approx 1mm to 2mm to wide in diameter) to fit into the existing holes.
From the research i did (google) I thought that the fittings/holes for the rollers were a standard size - one size fits all? (Or have i got an imperial guitar and a metric machine head?
)
I'm not averse to drilling into the existing holes 'carefully' or even gently filing the openings to make the new machine heads fit - but, obviously, if there are different sized rollers out there, in sets of 3 strips, then i would prefer to buy another set.
Any advice appreciate - as although it's not an expensive guitar it was my first so despite its battered look and worn out fret board it still has pride of place over all my other guitars... (persoanlly, i prefer the look of my battered guitars - i like a guitar with a bit of history and character to its look...)
