Clean install of Windows 8 using 'Reset your PC' function.

Considering doing this,

A quick Google brings guide up on how to do this, however, the guides say the drive will be formatted - well yeah....duh!

Does it just mean the drive the OS is installed on? (C: ) or does it wipe every drive you have connected to your pc, such as my 1TB data warehouse (D: )

Has anyone used this tool so far? Just need some clarity before i potentially lose all my work,photos,passwords etc!

Disconnecting the storage drive will stop it wiping it.

It asks you if you just want to do the Windows drive or all drives in the system, pretty simple really.

And does it actually wipe (as in overwrite all addressable sectors with zeroes), or just zero out the MFT entries?

It will format the partition you ask it to.

Back up what you need from C and clean install booting from disc/usb, the setup will ask you to select a partition to install on, select C it will warn you all data from C will be wiped and carry on...
