Hi

I have just bought a HP NX6310. It came pre-loaded with XP but I want to reformat the drive and reinstall windows (primarily to get rid of all the crap that came pre-installed).

The problem I have is that when i start the fresh install from a bootable CD, i am told that the system has no hard drives installed.

How can I fix this? I have been told I need a Floppy drive (which i dont have), is there a way around this?

Thanks

Phil

because your trying to boot windows from the harddrive,

go into your bios, and set your dvd to boot first. that way when you come to do fresh install it loads from there, just make when it says press any key to boot from cd... you do ;)

trust me, i spent all day yestaday doing windows installing 10+ times, stupid blue screens! :P

no, its beacuse he doesn't have the driver installed for SATA.

bear with me, finding a tool now

-edit, use this tool

first copy your XP disc to C:\XPCD, then use this tool on it, then use nlite to create a bootable cd

nice :)

nlite is an awesome tool, you can use the ryanvm update pack, to slipstream windows updates into the disc too, and do component removals, driver additions, unattended setup
