clean install with no disk?

I'm attempting to do a fresh install of Vista on my mates laptop, however....

His recovery CD he made when it was new does not work. Is it possible to create a new one, or this is something that needs to be done at the time of a fresh install?

If so, does this mean we have no other options!?

I take it that his laptop has now gone beyond the point of no return and you can't boot into it to make another ?

Does the puter work or not - does it post? What puter is it -Whats in it?
Do you have the serial/key stuck to the back?

if the image was on a partition that was then deleted then there is no hope but to get a new copy

If you can get a dell disk off a mate or else where then you will be able to install it then activate it using code on laptop

thanks for reply people. I downloaded a boot disk torrent from newegg, then realised there was a partition with an image on it. duh.
