Clean TFT with water?

I've cleaned my monitor with a bit of spit and toilet roll, probably a bad idea, but it seems OK so far.
I know you can get actual screen cleaner kits with special solutions of some sort, but I'd imagine a damp lint free cloth with, ideally, distilled water would be fine. I'd depend on what you're trying to clean though or how dirty your monitor is though. The cleaning solution you get for glasses could probably work too, if you wear glasses of course.
From a quick Google, most people (even some companies) seem to suggest a 50/50 mix of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water and using a microfibre/lint free cloth.

Isopropyl alcohol is recommended, but I have used water and nothing has gone wrong before.

Slightly damp chamois leather is the best.
heres what i do, 100% clean screens every time.
take 2 of these microfibre cloths about 2 quid for a pack in ASDA
damp one of the cloths, clean your screen with it then use the other one to dry the screen, the micro fibre texture will remove everything off the screen,
i use it for all LCDs

For the love of god don't clean your screens with toilet roll, not only will it scratch over time you will just be putting loads of dusty crap on it. Damp cloth, gently wiped the same way, then do the same with a dry cloth. Always make sure their clean too.
@Above pic are good, I have very similar cloths for cleaning screens. There no need to use cleaning agents.

Just to add to this (and this will seem rather pedantic given crackerbear's cleaning habbits 
) it would depend on whether you live in a hard water area and whether the screen was glossy or matte. You can generally 'get away with' using tap water but if you live in a hard water area residues can be problematic and can even damage glossy screens in particular. I would recommend using a proper cloth and cleaning solution or a little distilled water and IPA if you're a cheapskate. Just to be on the safe side. No spit, vodka or toilet roll please!

I'll have you know, my spit is purer than distilled water and my toilet roll is triple quilted Velvet - which as the brand suggests is basically velvet, three layers of it.
