Did a clean install via ISO/USB onto a new SSD, same PC, just putting the OS onto a new drive, but I'm getting a message saying my product key isn't working, any ideas?

Is it a case you HAVE to install your previous Windows to get the update to work?

Is this during the installation stage? If so just skip it. Once it connects to the internet it will activate itself.

I had the same problem but in my case, an old Packard bell PC, I did not take note that my upgrade would not be authorised due to incompatible hardware (old, on-board NVidia video had no modern drivers for win 10).

I was able to double check as I upgraded to an SSD on that PC and the old hard drive had not been wiped - if you are able to check the previous install you may find that clicking the windows upgrade icon in the bottom-right actually shows you why you cant upgrade.

The good news is that a call to Microsoft sorted it - although I had to ask to speak to a supervisor (the first guy told me to call the pc manufacturer and I was having none of it) who gave me a valid key.

Well I was impatient...jsut reinstalled Win7 and doing the update path with a full wipe on teh new drive.

ok but when the windows 10 upgrade logo shows in windows 7 click it and read the messages - it may tell you why you cant upgrade...but a quick whinge to MS will likely see them giving you a new key.
