Cleaned all fans & CPU heatsink....temps are higher

I spent an hour and a half taking out all of my case fans and my CPU heatsink fans, cleaning them, cleaning the heatsink itself, putting it all back together again (with slightly better cable arrangement in fact) as well as vacuuming the rest of my case...and my max temps under load (15 minutes of IBT) have increased from 82,81,81,75 to 88,88,87,82.

My first thought was that I put a fan or two back the wrong way around but I've just double checked them and they're fine (front fan intake, rear+top fans exhaust, CPU fans push-pull towards rear). So how did this happen then? Even ambient temps should've been slightly lower cos I had my window open for about ten minutes whilst doing all of this and it's -5 outside!

Hi, you may have disturbed the heatsink without realising it when you cleaned it. Its the only thing l can think of, as you say you have doubled checked everything else, so try reseating the heatsink.

Use nail vanish remover. I do reviews of heatsinks so I am swapping them out all the time, always worked wonders for me. Apply it 2 or 3 times, because on the first time you get the worst off but then it doesn't clean enough because the rag is dirty.

Aaargh, the fans were all set up correctly and plugged in but the push fan on the CPU heatsink wasn't clipped on properly. Fixed that and now I get 75,74,74,69. :D

I've bought some IPA though and I think I'll try reseating the heatsink next time I clean my case out. Cheers guys!

Or don't bother with carefully removing thermal paste from the surfaces, then immediately reapplying the same amount of the same paste. Also an option.
