I have a 8800GT and I suspect dust is building up inside its stock cooler.
What is the easiest way to remove the black plastic cover so that it looks like this?

I have the original 8800GT and it has no screws on the side, it looks like the cover just clips on but I'm not so sure.
Many thanks!

ah i share your problem, only with a much older card (6800) I also wouldnt mind knowing how to removed these plastic covers that have no screws.

You sure they don't have screws?

My old 6800 ultra and 7950GX2 had stickers over the heatsink cover. Peeling this back revealed tiny screw that could be removed for cleaning.

EDIT: Just found this, make sure to read the last passage -

my 6800ultra and 7800gt were fine to get the heat sink completely off. i dont see what the problem could be (havent got a 8800gt though). just unscrewed the back plate and pretty much every screw in site.

If you look there are little holes in the shroud with bits of metal poking through. That is what is holding it one. You have to lever it off. You will find it easier to undo the screws on the bottom and seperate the card from the cooler, Just unscrew it and unplug the little fan wire thingy. Then stick a screw driver or something underneath the shroud and lever it off.
