Hi,

Wasn't sure where to post this, think it fits in best here as it is to do with cleaning your general hardware :)

What do you guys use, if you have a very dusty PC from a friend/family member, that you've been asked to clean ... Specifically to clean the motherboard and PCI cards

Compressed air doesn't work as the dust is so baked on and there is so much of it that it need some 'contact', and obviously lint free tissues just get ripped on the legs of the components etc

I was wondering is there some soft brush that could be used that wouldn't get 'caught' on the component legs etc? I have a feeling someone will suggest a clean paintbrush but I'm not sure

What do you do then?

Thanks! :)

Yeah I use a paintbrush with soft bristles. It's great for cleaning fan dust shields too and for brushing the cat.

Haha well I don't have a cat but I could use a paintbrush for the components then :)

Just wondered what people use ... See what the best option is

best thing to clean is i can of compressed air. blows the dust away very well and won't cause any static...

do it outside though if' there's a lot

soft brush, and hold a hovver over the area you are brushing (obviously not touching).

Edit: oops double post

I use a hoover to get the loose crap first and clear the card slots.

Then the soft bristle paint brush on the cards does the rest.

Plus a nice brush does wonders for heatsink fins and hard to reach fan points.

Some of those Intel stock fans are so badly designed and get caked with so much dust.

Thanks for all the replies everyone!

Sounds like I will be using a soft bristle paint brush next time :)

I use compressed air for my PC but that just doesn't work on other people's when they are caked in dust lol :p
