The main bonus I can see is that it is so good at it's job one kit should last for 200-300 cleans so it's very economical but also SAFE to be kept in the house.
The "metal lid" is a heat spreader, known as an IHS (Integrated?). It's common on modern CPUs and does not need to be removed. If you do removed it, you will void your warranty and may well have trouble fitting your cooler. It's easy to break your CPU doing this. If you really want to do it, there's a guide on these forums: A64 IHS Removaljpe20 said:Impression I get is that it is best to use an alcohol based solvent for this job as it leaves no residue. Also meths I think is a petrol based solvent and people say that it does leave some residue though I have never noticed that myself cleaning other stuff in the past.
Anyhow another problem has cropped up as my 3800x2 cpu seems to have a metal lid on it!!!!! If I am to use AS5 then I should really remove this lid I suppose and then remove the gunk/adesive. Then it would be possible to connect HSF directly to CPU. Though I am wondering now if it will be worth the hassle of "delidding" the CPU and cleaning up. Just that I do not fancy applying AS5 to the stock HSF and CPU as it is due to reading somewhere that AS5 is electrically conductive and hence any overspill (off the CPU lid) will drop onto the motherboard (NOT GOOD I assume!). Any1 know of a good delidding info website let me know.
Thanks for all your tips so far
Jules
