My 6990 just arrived, so gonna upgrade this evening.. Currently running an Nvidia 8800GTX in Windows 7.
Back in the good old days (tm) you used to have to clean drivers otherwise all sorts of weird stuff might happen.. Is this still a good idea (presume so), and whats the best way of doing it without reinstalling?

Thanks in advance,
Sam

For Windows 7:
i) remove the Nvidia drivers in under the uninstall in Control Panel
ii) shutdown the PC
iii) removed the old Nvidia card and install the new AMD/ATI card
iv) boot into windows
v) install driver

That's what I did when I upgrade from my old 9800GTX+ to my current 5850. DO NOT use driver sweeper! That program is not written with Windows 7 in mind but for older windows. Using it in Windows 7 could do more harm than good...and there's not much point using it in the first place since a standard uninstall for driver in Windows 7 is already sufficient.

I changed from a 560 to 6970s this morning - I couldn't uninstall Ntune and System Tools at all. I had to go into safe mode to delete them by hand. You have been warned!

Two of the other Nvidia software also refuse to uninstall as they couldn't detect Nvidia hardware... which is incredibly moronic so don't remove it until it's all gone.
