i thought i would get clever today and decided to clean the PC while it was switched on.

I have an Antec 300 case. i switched my turbo dyson on and put the nozzle directly to the front of the case. The dust was sucked out from the 2x120mm fans.

Now the front 2 fans make a howling noise. Not sure if this is because the fans tried to spin in the opposite direction or they spun in the same direction super fast.

Lucky these are on offer:

I wont be doing that again.

Try removing the fans and pressing down in the centre of them (they may click back into place) and make sure if you have an air dust filter that it has not moved and got into the way of the fan blades. Also next time do it with the pc off :P so it does not fry your fan headers on the motherboard if that is where they are plugged into.

Weird, if you used the dyson on the fan on the front of the case surely the dyson and the fan would be blowing air in opposite directions?

ie. Fan pulling cool air into case, dyson sucking air out. However if you changed the fan so it blows air out the front of the case then even making it spin fast shouldn't affect it. Is there a fan filter on the fan? Check it isn't rubbing against it or something else.

Best way would be to blow the dust off with compressed air. I got a track pump with a football needle on the end (taped around the needle so only the end is where the air comes out), I just block the end of the needle and build up some pressure in the pump and then release it at what I'm trying to clean. Very effective at blowing the dust away from inside heatsinks and hard to reach parts.

Saves you from having to buy cans of compressed air. Although it'll make you sweat a bit :D

I thought of getting a car one but could never find one to connect to mains voltage. Might think about getting the airbed pump if you say it works well. I always thought they pumped air slowly but surely instead of quick so I thought it probably wouldn't have enough pressure to blow dust off.

my case has dust filters. they seem ok.

pushed the fan centre. still making the noise.

i wont be happy if i get LED fans or 1 of each.
