Hello folks
Is it normal when you take a graphics card apart for cleaning that the cover on the GPU comes off ? and should i have glued it back on and not just used TIM to stick it back ?
The bit that says NVIDIA? sorry i didnt take pictures as i was thinking ooh **** not get camera .
The card has been hot since i bought it nov 2010 (lost receipt
) but i have changed the TIM as i thought that may help ,didnt but hey ho worth a try. There was a lack of aftermarket replacements at the time so i have left it and i am away from home too much to replace the thing.
Recently been really hot and actually freezing the pc .I took it apart to do the paste again and discovered to thing had loads of trapped fuzz that the air duster hadnt touched. anyway the cover for the gpu came off and i was looking at the gpu itself and the nvidia cover was stuck to the heatsink.
I have changed the TIM on it and the heatsink and the temps have dropped 10c during gaming !
i know that the paste has to cure properly but im hopeful that ive solved the problem and not damaged the gpu with my fat fingered approach.
