cleaning sticky sweets.

I'm sure there must be a father out there that has a tip.

Never used my passenger door pocket till today when my passenger put something in and took it out and it was all sticky. My guess is it's been some form of sweet that's melted.

Any tips to clean it out?

I've tried interior wipes (don't judge reduced to 8p they're handy!) but they don't seem to be shifting much.

Vinegar or Lemon juice depending on what it was. Apply liberally and allow to soak. Should soften it up a bit. Once softened remove using normal cleaning products. Make sure you dry it very well and reclean to get any vinegar/juice off.

Other options are expensive "sticky stuff removers" which are basically citric acid.

I hate passengers, especially in the back of my car, I always find empty bottles or wrappers stufed down the back of the seat pockets, ANNOYING! especially since I have a car bin!

Sticky sweets and grease marks are the worst thing to get out of seats!

Another option is hot soapy water and I mean as hot as you can stand it and sponges. Also a double bagging option on the hand you use so you can push your limits of heat resistance (washing up gloves you dirty motors people!). Just be careful not to cross the line into scalding hot territory

Keep it localised to worst part of the mess then pack out the door pocket with a dry sponge and some old cloths to dry it.

Thanks guys. I reckon it was left there when I bought the car 6weeks a go. I have cleaned the inside in that time but never thought about looking in the pockets; my wipes did clean off the CD case that was down there.

I don't know what it was, but sort of looks like an old boiled sweet that's melted away.

Nail varnish remover works well.

I discovered my passenger door well full of melted sweets. I boiled some water and then poured a small amount into the door well. I then left it to melt the sweet down and wiped away with a cloth. Repeat the process if the problem area is particularly stubborn.
