Hi gang,

Just wondering what the best stuff you can buy from a chemist to clean a cpu? and what do you use to rub it on with? Is it dangerous -will it damage cpu if you rub too hard?

Cheers

You can get Surgical or Rubbing alchohol from a chemist and use any lint free cloth to clean it. This will clean it fine, although I prefer to use Akasa TIM Cleaner.
As long as you don't use a scouring pad, you shouldn't cause any damage to your core.

can i use kitchen towel to clean it? or will it have to be a lint free cloth? I dont have any lint free cloths :/ ( where can i buy a lint free cloth from?)

Thats all i use spluff, just turn the kitchen towel over after each rub, don't scrub with it so it starts to break up,other than that i use a piece of an old tee shirt.

cheers mick........ i guess it is quite visible the muck you are removing from the cpu itself? is it best to take the cpu out? altho might be kinda dangerous handling it?

Leave it in if you can get at it ok in the case,or if you take it out the best thing to place it on is a piece of anti static foam like the stuff that they come with in the case when new.

Surgical spirit, isopropyl alcohol, gin, vodka, they all work fine. get some alcohol from the chemist, cheap for a full bottle, will last ages. Been using it for years, brilliant stuff.

I use industrial paint thinners :) They work wonders for cleaning the CPU, although they're not too friendly on the fingers :(

Using kitchen roll is fine. Personally, I would find it very awkward to clean it in the mobo. It's easiest just to take it out and hold it by its corners while you clean it. As long as you don't jump on it, there is no problem of damage.
