Quick question. I know you can get proper TFT cleaning wipes, but before I waste my money on them, is there anything better (cheaper) I can use? I have plenty of camera lens cleaning solution, I also have some of those car dashboard/interior wipes you get from Halfords. Or I could just use a damp cloth? though this has left streaky marks when I have used one in the past.

Cheers

Dave

I use my glass cleaner wipe, Just get it damp ( not wet), works the best imho
if you get streaks, use more water, and do it a few times, till the cloth is almost dry.

I use to smoke in my study so you can imagine my screens back then.

i use a microfiber cloth, some people say use some TFT cleaning fluid on it (just a tad) as microfiber is rough enough to get any marks off.

Cheers all, used a bit of lens cleaner to get rid of the greasy fingerprints and then a slightly damp paper towel to get rid of any remaining streaky marks.

I use screenwipes in a tub, the wipes are dirt free and moist. Last thing you want to do use a cloth with some grit embedded in the fibres. You could use a lens cleaning cloth, just keep it in a plastic bag so it doesn't get filthy.

i have a vx2025 and i clean it with a cloth that came with my thermaltake case, but the thing that annoys me the most is my young nephews have a habit of poking the screen. so im wondering could i buy a cover for the screen to stop greasy fingerprints. and that will be light enough to hang on the display

i use one of them but i don't get any dirt on my screen just dust which the cloth takes off when gone over lightly with it

i did get one with my new lg monitor which i thought was strange, they now include a cloth with them ?

i use the cloth which i got with my 206bw.
smooth as anything and removes any marks on my monitor!

used it on my dirty laptop screen and the laptop now looks NEW.

I personally would advise a lint free cloth with a very small amount of slightly soapy water. TFTs have a coating on them that you really don't want to risk using solvents on.

after reading this thread i'm a bit worried about cleaning my TFT now.

using a microfibre cloth removes dust but what is safe enough to use that will remove any greasy fingerprints?

Screen wipes in a tub. Clean pads, with alchol which doesn't leave a residue.

What I said just above - use detergent with a little water - not too wet - will break up the oils in the finger prints - buff with a lint free cloth.

Or spend a couple of pounds and get some proper screen wipes - honestly stay away from solvents.

i scrubbed mine hard and forcefully with glasses cleaning wipes - its had a years worth of me living in a damp flat, and im a pretty violent sneezer =) damn bogey marks!

On closer inspection (ie daylight) the lens cleaner has made an improvement, but it does seem a little streaky still, could just be the 2 year build up of dirt isn't completely gone yet! May just dust of the wallet and shell out for some proper screen wipes.

Cheers

i use a microfiber cloth just for general dusting but if i ever need to remove any smudges or marks then i rest the cloth over a dish of boiling water to get it steamy then rub that over and works a treat.

thats horrible...

I use a glasses cleaning cloth and just wet it slightly, ring it out then give the screen a wipe. I use another lense cloth to dry it.

Does the trick for me.
