Cleaning TIM from a GPU, sigh.

Oh right, sounds like yours were quite bad! Mine are ok to be honest. They idle at the same temp and only normally have about a 6 - 8 degree load difference.

Yeah they were pretty terrible, only really noticed when the second card turned up. Nearly fell off my seat!

Lol never seen it that bad before! People think sandwich filler when applying TIM when it should be more of a fine coat of paint sort of thing. Less really is better!

Yep, that's exactly how the PK-1 went on there. Even coating to the edges of the die with a credit card, and cooler securely fastened. Win.
 
Yuk, surely that mess cannot be factory applied. Did you buy the card new or used? Well done with the cleanup job.

Edit: If new, name and shame the Manufacturer.

Thought I replied to this, sorry mate.

It was an Asus card, wasn't new to me but it was definitely the original factory TIM on there. Square block of the hardish pad type TIM, that had smooshed all over the die and components on the chip. :(
