I'm going to replace my stock HS with a AC Freezer 7 Pro. What should I be using to clean the TIM that came with the stock HS from the CPU? I've seen various things suggested such as rubbing alcohol, citrus-based cleaning fluid, nail varnish remover, credit cards and razor blades.

do not use credit card, nail varnish or razor blades, use a proper tim cleaner like;

or

both are recommended :cool:

Isopropanol...went to the chemists for a small bottle and came out with a half litre one for a fiver!! Still nearly full after many uses :)

I couldnt get any Isopropanol from any of my local chemists so I got some mineralised meths from a hardware store instead. It does the job for me even if it does stink.

Isopropanol. You can pick 500ml for peanuts from auction, and will last you a lifetime.

I put some tussie around the end of a rule then scrap the paste off the cpu. Then just use damp and dry tussies to finsh it off...good way guys?

It will certainly work, but the idea of using a solvent based cleaner (isopropyl, ethanol, methanol, acetone etc.) is that it will disolve and strip off any minute amounts of TIM residue, so it is pretty much guarenteed to be 100% clean.

yeah use "ArctiClean Thermal Material Remover and Surface Purifier"

found this to be really easy to use, and effective.
comes with some cleaning "wipes" too.

i cleaned mine with cd cleaning fluid, its got isopropyl alcohol in it, few sprays onto a lint free cloth, couple of swipes and it removed it very easily.
