Anyone gone through this process at all or have any tips for reducing the general rubbish that gets thrown your way?

My accounts from back when facebook launched so I fell foul of a load of popular cretins from school and every other part of my life trying to beat each other by the number of friends they had - it's full of accumulated pap.

Not used it socially for about 10+ year but do miss out on a lot of useful stuff in a few groups on there.

I access it from the phone app in the main which is annoying because I heard of the news feed eradicator which is good for general browser use.

Don't really want to have to delete the account and start again as private groups assume you're a spammer using a fresh account.

Honestly wish the platform wasn't as popular as it is!

FB Purity is what i used to use to get rid of a load of junk on the site. Might work on a phone using say kiwi browser, but otherwise you are out of luck AFAIK.

Do you really need to access those private groups?
I'm 32, signed up as mates wanted to keep in touch had no interest in the platform as I despise all forms of social media nonsense. I just use WhatsApp for a selected few contact/family.

FB Purity to try and limit the clutter a bit, and every few months I have a purge of groups and 'friends' to clean it up even more.
Use it to your advantage, for groups you are interested in, and friends you want to really keep in touch with, and don't get sucked in to the rest of it.

I deleted my original account, did a full backup of my data first. Then made a new one. Doesn't take that long for your account to be considered OK.

I just sort through what groups I am in about once a year and drop any I don't use, a lot of my ex friends that are still in my list, have been u followed

This is what I did, which works for me:
- uninstall from phone (good for phone battery life, and privacy, and avoids attention stealing notifications)
- delete account (clears out all the old junk, deleting individual stuff doesn't work)
- make new account
- friend nobody
- join groups
- bookmark groups and access directly via web browser
- never look at feed/wall (looked at it just now and it's full of bs, so that will always be unavoidable on a phone)
