Cleaning windscreen (possibly boring thread)

Do you mean you get a sort of rainbow sparkle from all over the windscreen when driving into direct sunlight? If so, I get the same, especially noticeable on a very clean windscreen, so I'd be interested in possible solutions for this too. Maybe they are microscopic chips all over the surface of the screen, but I don't that this is likely; they are too widely spread and uniform distribution.

I clean my windscreen with a razor blade and Stoner Invisible Glass until it's completely smooth, so it's nothing on the surface. Using a hand-applied glass polish makes the problem more apparent if anything.

Yea that is exactly it. I did try a clay bar but that didnt really do anything.

You can use one of those floor scraper razor blades from hardware shops, seen Ammo NYC do it numerous times on his Youtube channel. Then follow up with clay bar, wash, rinse and maybe some sealant.

Here's a scary thought, has anyone used the 000 steel wool approach? I don't think I'd try it but if the screen is bad it might be worth a try with some glas polish.
Andi.

Something black that would fill the chiplets to stop the sparkle may help. You can get something similar for lens scratches.
What if you dotted a permanent black sharpie pen on an area then quickly wiped off with isopropyl and maybe it would stay in the chips.

You need 0000 not 000 :D

Yes it does work and it can remove surface scratches (you may need a glass polishing compound as well). But if you can feel the scratch with your fingernail it's probably to deep.

Where can you buy 0000 from? I need to give this a go on my MarkX, it has mega stubborn water spots on all the glass except the front screen. Have seen that the steel wool solution really works to remove them.

Hydrofluoric acid and a jet wash. ;)

You'll need to 'polish' the scratches/chips out of the glass, so you'll something like 0000 wool to smooth the surface.

Bump - what do you guys use to clean the inside of your windscreen? I made the mistake of using Rain X on mine last year and it made condensation / screen clearing worse with the added bonus that it now looks dirty on the inside. Any tips on cleaning?
