Right read a lot of threads, but theres loads of benchmarks and talk ect so i need some final words.

As far as i can read the GTX 280 brought 50% gains over the 8800GTX, but this still means the all important crysis still cant be 'playable'.

Anyway im now foggy as to whats best out of 8800GTX, 4850, and the GTX 260. Are they all pretty even depending on what game your playing?

Noice, so basically the 4870 will be a nice inbetween of the 8 series and the GTX 280, and will cost a lot less? So nvidia are now doing all this performance driver buisiness and 9800+?

And dropping the price of the 9800GTX old to the same as the 4850 (£117-£140) with the new 9800GTX+ coming in at £137-£160 and hence cheaper than the 4870 but dearer and faster than the 4850.

I bet Nvidia wish they could drop the price of the GTX260/280 but they probably can't cause it costs too much money to produce.

Great times for consumers for getting bang for buck :D

Hey Lozzick, just noticed your at Pocklington where I was born and lived for 21 years!

Was there last week for a birthday party.

oh really? she still live there now? :D

And my eldest sister went to private. Me and my other sister (younger sister, but when i say that i mean she is also older than me)went to woldgate. Anyway this is getting into a big GD conversation lol. Add me on MSN if you like.

yep :), but other games suggest that the new ATi cards are good at high res, similar to the older ATi traditions. However, that was Assassins creed, which all ATi cards wipe the floor with the nVidia ones on it at high res.

Hm going by that the 9800gtx, 8800gtx and 4580 all seem pretty similar across the board, except the 4580 seems a little weaker in the bigger graphical showcases.

The only clear performance winner is the 280, but then thats at a silly mans price and seems hardly worth it unless you play games at 2560x1900.

The 4850 is pushing up very close to the GTX 260 at times with the same amount of AA. For half the price I have to say I'm mightily impressed.

Last time round I never expected ATI to fail with R600 as much as they did and now I didn't expect them to bring out a low cost monster like this .

Two 4850s in crossfire are the same price as the GTX 260 btw and will be faster. Even above the GTX 280 at times, sometimes below but the point is that it's priced the same as the GTX 260. This is also the weaker card as the 4870 is still due. For big resolution gamers using G92 GT (maybe even G92 GTS) then this would be a good card for them (4850). 1680x1050 and below using the GT/GTS should not bother unless the amount of AA they use or the games they play need a boost.

I'm quite eager to see the GDDR5 version of the 4870 because of the speeds I've seen (3.6Ghz) and what this will do to big resolution gaming as well as affect the card in general in comparison to the 4850 on GDDR3.

flog your gtx and if you have spare wait till atleast 4870 or if u can last till 4870x2 if u dont have spare and have x38 / x48 buy twho 4850 or one 4870 and then later on cf them

Easy tiger :). If the games he plays are smooth then there is no rush. He can let the cards come out, see how they fair on the range of games he plays and then make his decision.
