Hi guys just purchased a DS3P and planned to overclock my new e6420 but have noticed that the cmos has no jumper to clear the pins and its real awkward to try and take the battery out every time i need to clear it.

Does every time your overclock not boot on the ds3p result in a cmos having to be cleared ??

if so were can i get some jumpers from as its a bit difficult to take the battery out in my system.

cheers for the advice

I noticed the very same problem with the board (though only have the DS3 not DS3P), on my previous motherboards there were always 3 pins, with the jumper on one of the pins needed to clear the CMOS and another pin.

To solve this you can either:

1: Take out the battery for a few minutes and replace

2: Use a jumper from a Hard Drive or old motherboard you have lying around (which i did)

Hope this helps

Ive read it has a button instead of jumper pins. RTFM?
defoe no button just seems a daft thing to sell a board that they advertise as a good overclocker then dont supply the jumper to clear the cmos lol,

not a major problem although would have been nice to have been supplied with one.

Just use a long screwdriver and connect it to the two pins : much easier as this is what I do :)

oh and another thing, any of you guys know if i can change the board over without doing a clean install of vista ???
Good question and if you'll allow me to add to this, I was wondering whether you are still required to add the 64 bit sata and raid driver as part of the Vista install or whether Vista will automatically do this for you. Thanks :)

unless the mobo was the same then probably no chance.

If the chipset is the same i would have thought you could (nForce 2 you could), otherwise a fresh install would be needed due to the differing hardware.

I tried it previously when moving to a Dua VSTA. It was stable for about 5mins. There is a previous postr about changing from a different chipset and deleting various chipset drivers. Didn't work for me though I am sure I missed something and the fault was entirely due to me. I have also changed mobos with the same chipsets, and as already indicated this is fine :)

This is a complete different chipset, microsoft talk about putting in the vista dvd then selecting upgrade and as the pc restarts shut it off and then fit the new mobo and the restart. anyone tried this

Reinstalling an OS is not a big deal. I make a 10Gb partition, save my favorites in firefox, save my start menu, save my sendto folder, and my documents for any game profiles.

If u dont have a 10Gb partition then u could use partition magic.

Alternatively u could make a Ghost of the drive with Norton Ghost.
