Is anyone else having a problem with Cleartype? No matter if I turn it off or on in W7 I can't get everything to look uniform.

If I have it on, the desktop looks great but web pages look blurry and horrible, and if I turn it off web pages look great but the desktop looks blurry and horrible. I've tried different browsers and the problem remains. Why couldn't MS leave it alone? We were all fine before it came along!

Has anyone found a good setting for it that doesn't cede these problems?

i have to agree with you, but you sort of get used to it, i dual boot with xp, xp looks so so crisp compared to win 7.

ive not changed anything to do with it since i installed it and it looks great on my laptop HD3200 gfx i love it other than i find it abit laggy when typing a lot.

I am, yes. This was never a problem in Vista. I just disabled it and everything looked crisp and sharp. With Windows 7 I'll be buggered if I can get the right settings.

well, everything looks sharp on my windows 7 install. are you on a desktop? if so, is your monitor connected using VGA or DVI? if its VGA, have you tried recalibrating your monitor? (press the "auto" button)

if that doesn't work, windows 7 has a "cleartype tuner" which you can use to calibrate it to your hearts content (it's like an eyetest! :)). to run it, type "cleartype" into the startmenu searchbox

I'm on HDMI since that gives me access to more calibration settings on the monitor menu. Do you think it's worth setting it to VGA or DVI? The only problem is that if I don't use HDMI the sharpness setting is disabled.

the sharpness setting is for SD video, not pixel-thick text. the sharpness setting could very well be the cause of the blurryness.

Thanks - I'll check it out later today, maybe that's the problem. The Cleartype tuner doesn't help very much, unfortunately.
