I haven't posted here for a very long time, but I would like to report that my Clevo M860 TU after owing it since November 2008 hasn't missed a beat, it is used daily from around 09:30 until gone midnight most days - yes it's a sad fact lol, but this is the best laptop I have ever owned :D:D

One question for those who can remember these lovely machines, I can't find any mention of BIOS updates on the Clevo website. I looked at links from various sites but am unsure of the correct BIOS update to download and install - I'd hate to mess things up.

Machine details are:

Date of purchase: November 25 2008

Model: Clevo M860 TU - aka Ultima Mobile 15.4"

Serial number: NK M860TU 8J00315

Bios rev: 1.01.08

KBC/EC Firmware rev: 1.00.08
---------------------------------------
I read that I have to update the EC firmware first and just need to be pointed to the correct BIOS revision download.

Thank you in advance

Mine is still getting the loving too. I've had no reason to update the BIOS on mine infact unless you have a reason to I'd advise against it clevo's driver/software support seems a bit hit and miss.

Thank you both for your replies.

Rroff, I agree with you regarding the hit and miss but I can forgive them to a point due to the machine quality and specification.

Moeks, you are probably right - you have a very logical policy.

I do take advice, so considering the potential risks I will not upgrade. The only reason I considered it is that I have moved to PCLinuxOS 2010 and the machine will not shut down or reboot and on further investigation it reports a corrupted BIOS - I was skeptical of this but did wonder if there were any upgrades available that could have sorted that.

I would try a different Linux variant a see what happens, but if you actually do have a reason to update the Bios then by all means, I was simply saying that if you don't have any 'good' reason to, I wouldn't advise it.

I'm on my 2nd of these - the first was the original revision with a P8600 & 9800m GTS sold it in order to pay for the newer one. I'll probably keep this until it dies as I can't get on with 16:9 screens I want height!!!

Moeks, I have sorted the problem with a bit of judicious editing of the Policykit.conf file, I wrongly assumed it was BIOS related as other Linux distros didn't have this problem. Thanks again for your advice and input.

Mr_T, I prefer the 15.4 screen size too as it's more portable than the 17's. I'll be keeping mine until it wears out - hopefully that will be a long time from now tho'
