Hi guys,

I wanted to ask a few questions about the Clip On Mic's that are available. First of all in terms of sound quality is there much difference between the Zalman ZM-MIC1, Spes, Antlion ModMic v4 and the DX mic?

Something I have also noticed is the lack of mute buttons on any of these, if i'm not mistaken. Are there any alternatives that have a mute button? It would make things a lot easier for me as I am having some serious difficulties with muting through Windows/Skype etc. Something I wouldn't expect would be an issue.

Any help appreciated! :)

SPES, ZM-MIC1 and DX mic are very much identi al in performance. Antlion ModMic is streets ahead and very very good for recording - but the price tag reflects this. It is also approaching Blue Microphones USB Desktop mic teritory with pricing and Im not sure ut can compete there.

Afraid not, I always use Push-to-Talk or voice activation so I've never really run into issues with needing mute. Antlion have discussed and did plan to introduce a mute button into their ModMic 4.0 (just come out) but I dont know if they managed to do so. EDIT: The ModMic 4.0 does indeed have a mute switch.

There are several desktop mics that have mute buttons, from the ridiculously cheap Logitech USB Desktop mics to the aforementioned Blue Microphones range.

You are completely right, I missed that!

Looks like I will have to purchase the ModMic for my CAL!'s when they get here. Probably a bit overkill but now its got a mute button that's awesome!

Cheers :)

antlion mod mic's are the business but far too pricey, I also don't like how you need to glue a magnet to your headphones in order to use them.

I much prefer the v moda boom pro system but then that is only compatible with certain products.

I wonder why all headphone manufacturers don't make removable cables? Would be easy to upgrade them and add mic's then.

Glue? It's a bit of tape, dude! Peels off easily without leaving much of a (if any) residue that is then easily cleaned up with the supplied wipes or baby wipes. Price vs Performance is about comparable to base end Blue Microphones, and its not too far off that kind of level.

Removable cables are more costly for production, its also more to 'go wrong' so could increase warranty claims. Though you are right, it would certainly be easier - problem is there isn't aa V-Moda boom for cans that have cables to each can :p
