Hey guys as the company i was ordering my water loop through messed me over ( il be using oc uk in the future ) ive decided to get a quick fix of a noctua D14. but i know its a huge piece of kit, and i dont think with my full size vengeance in there i would mannage to fit it on, would it be wise to clip the fins from the top of the modules that would be in the way ( i noticed there made of quite a flimsy thin plastic that look easy to clip), i personaly thought they were just for show and in reality held no real performance difference. i mean ram, heat fins? really?? but if there going to be under a huge cooler, i dont mind giving them a trim, although i would be doing my best to keep them aesthetically pleasing

I tried trimming mine but it got messy and while the fins are easy to cut the central wider section is not (certainly without risking damaging the board). Much easier just to remove the whole heatsink as per the link above; very easy to do.

Thanks for the tip guys, i had no idea the entire heat spreader could be so easily removed

thanks again :D i think il take it of prior to the d14 arriving so i can make sure its all still performing correctly

Great, ^^ took the heat sinks off entirely. took about 10 - 15 mins each to including cleaning up that heat compound stuff from the chips. i bet with the d14 having the center fan slightly pertruding from underneath the ram will be cooler anyway :) thanks again guys just gonna keep testing making sure its all good
