Clock Keeps Hanging - Stops Folding

Something is interrupting my PC's clock. After about an hour from resetting the clock, folding dies. :eek:

This is whether the PC is in use for other things, or not. It started some time on Saturday (before BST took any effect), and has continued. Rebooting the PC has no effect. The OS is fully patched, as are all drivers for GPU, etc. Clock is reset simply by clicking the "change time and date settings", and sychronsiing with the internet. I could understand a clock dropping it's time if the PC was off and the BIOS battery thing had failed, but with the PC on, that shouldn't be happening. Any thoughts please?

Windows 7 Pro, F@H 7.3.6, i7 2600K @ 4.6 (has been on this clock for weeks), MSI GTX 670 PE. All temps are in their normal ranges.

What does the folding log say? And are you sure the folding has actually stopped? Or is it that the folding doesn't know what to report without a clock to time against?

Folding uses UTC so it shouldn't care about the clock change.

But allowing for the clock being wrong, does the folding program actually stop? Or is it still running? What does TaskManager show?

Taskmanager suggests that it is still running, but the logs aren't updating correctly and my PPD is way down so things aren't completing normally.

Whatever this weirdness is I suspect I'll have to do a reinstall on the PC as google is proving to be useless

Change the CMOS battery. May not be the cause but worth trying.

I've just decommissioned my Z68 E4 G3 and it'll be in the mm very soon....

Spoke too soon. Been playing up again all evening.

Tried a windows restore point and that really threw a spanner in the works with the BST change. It completely screwed the antivirus amongst other things into thinking it was a different unlicenced version altogether. :confused:

Faulty BIOS battery wouldn't affect a PC that is powered up?

Not sure about this. I suspect the battery still runs the clock even when powered on so I'd change it anyway. If I remember correctly, the clock goes before the CMOS settings when the battery gets low.

I have replaced the battery, It's still doing it. Indeed the folding logs suggest the time actually jumps back an hour :confused:

Heh, its just thats the only time I've had experience of it happening on any of my rigs. The VM's sometimes lost track of time.

Hmm, whatever has happened appears to have broken the BIOS clock. Even with the PC powered off for a while the BIOS screen clock stays stuck on the time at last shutdown, and doesn't update even whilst the BIOS screen is running

Might be making a tiny bit of progress. Although I'd previously replaced the CMOS battery, and I've uploaded the latest BIOS, both of which reset some BIOS stuff like the HDDS went from AHCI to IDE incorrectly, not everything reset. A hard CMOS /BIOS reset with the motherboard jumpers has sprung the BIOS clock back into life, at the expense of all my overclock settings. One step forward, one back ....
