Hi guys,

in recent weeks I've had a problem where my clock on my computer fails to hold the time. If I set it correct, switch the PC off for a few hours then back on, the clock time is all over the place.

This is causing people to get emails from me out of sequence with a strange time and dated 2004, even though I sent them yesterday.

Has anyone any ideas how I solve it? I've been told it could be a virus or the internal clock in my PC. Can anyone help?

Now I'm also getting problems where my PC is finding drivers to install hardware that is already installed! All this developed since a microsoft update, which never updated my browser to ie 6 etc.

What is going on?

Doesn't the battery on the motherboard keep the clock ticking over when the PC is off?

Yup, but I'm not sure how to check that its working, perhaps have a look to see how its behaving in your BIOS?

Now for some of my trade-mark stating the obvious! :D

Have you tried running windows update again?

Have you done a full virus/spyware/etc scan?

PK!

Should do - they last about six years on average I think. I'd have a look in your BIOS and see what the time is in there - if it's wrong, then Windows is innocent and there's something up with your BIOS or CMOS. If it's right, then something in Windows is off.
