Hi Guys,

So i received my order of the DEFCON 1s - Asus Maximus VIII Hero - Intel Core i7 6700K @ 4.60GHz - Overclocked Skylake Bundle yesterday and have it all set up and running, however i have installed windows 10 pro 64bit and when ever i run a game i get a blue screen with the following error - CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT.

All the things i have read online say its to do with the overclock or the gpu drivers, my 980ti is up to date with the latest drivers, so just wondering if overclockers or anyone on the community forum could help me ?

Try and lower down the cpu overclock a little and see if the issue goes away.

what psu are you using? as I take it you just got a cpu\mobo\ram bundle?

Hi,

Yeah i just purchased the bundle, the PSU is a EVGA Supernova 1000 G2.
Will i be breaching my warranty with overclockers if i reset cmos ? as i dont know how to overclock, so specifically purchased this preoverclocked from them.

I wouldn't reset the COMS as you will loose the OC profile\settings and not sure if OCUK keep copies or details of the OC settings.

Does the BSOD only happen when you start playing games or does it happen when on the internet etc? my thinking is you could try the on board GPU (if it has one) if you get the BSOD on the desktop as well as gaming as this would then be less strain on the PSU.

Maybe try re seating the 24 pin and the 4 pin power cables to the mobo and see if that helps at all.

Thanks for the help, doesn't happen on desktop, only after about 20 mins of gaming, i will try and re seat the 24 pin and the main power cable.

If my understanding is correct (I maybe wrong lol) the 4 pin power cable supplies the extra power to the CPU so re seating this may help, is it a fully modular power supply it maybe worth checking the 4 pin power cable is securely connected to the PSU as well.

Yes it is fully modular, tried resitting, will continue to test and keep this updated, ill phone overclockers tomorrow also as i have 3 year warranty and support.

excellent, hope it sorts it, as you said if still no joy give OCUK a call or stuck a post in their customer service section

Admins - i am having this discussion with the support staff on the customer services section of the forum now - if you want to delete this that is fine, unless its handy to help other who might have it, in which case i will keep this updated if my problem is resolved so it may help others.

Hi All,

As promised, i will keep this updated.

So the problem was either the bios or the overclock, the bios that was on the board was 4 versions old, so when it was overclocked at OcUK the oc was done on a old bios.
I removed the overclock and set it to auto then tested....no crashes when not overclocked.
So i then updated the motherboard to the latest bios and then re-applied the overclock back to 4.6ghz, so far so good - have run AIDA64 cpu stress test (100% load) for around 30 to 40 mins in total and no crash, have gamed a small amount also, shall continue testing tonight.

So if you also have this issue of the blue screen CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT, i hope this helps you.

I have found that some overclocks, no matter the amount of stress testing you do can still be unstable. Just use the system as you normally would, and see if you get anymore BSODs. :)
