In 2 minutes I stuck a fan on my g80gtx which immediatly dropped the idle/load temps by 10c  so can now clock from 621>648 / 1900>2106 with also duty cycle from 60% to 70% (still quiet at idle) :trying the fan blowing into the vents atm.

No extra fan @ 575/1800:
idle: 55c
load: 75c
3dmk06=9794
No extra fan @ 621/1900: (highest with stock cooling/duty cycle)
idle: 62c
load: 82c
With extra fan + duty cycle @ 70% @ 648/2106:
idle: 55c
load: 72c
3dmk06=10041

no way would the RAM do >1900 before the fan :p

i cant see how that helps temps, its not even positioned over the core
nice job anyway! :p

Its positioned over the air vents sucking air out of them, making air inside the cooler overall flow faster...

Nice job btw, so many applications to a spare 80 mm fan :) .

Lol, reminds me of when I attached an old socket7 cpu fan to my voodoo3 using a long cable tie thing that you see wrapped round plug wires when you unpack appliances.

The fan is blowing into the vents at the moment  I'll try turning it round & see what difference that has on the temps.
The fan is a quiet stealth fan so maybe a normal fan may allow even better clocks  if anyone wants try it as I dont have a fast fan atm.
Also maybe removing the plastic cover & putting the fan direct on the heatsink may be better though is it better to have the airflow? I tried removing my plastic cover though the gainward sticker on top of a nvidia sticker made it difficult remove the screws.

man thats good, did you reseat the stock cooler?

also is your stock cooler fan on auto speed control or is there a method for you to run it at 100% all the time?

so are there holes in the plastic cover or something?

worth a try, i did it to my 7600 awhile ago :

i modded the arctic cooling NV5 to fit the 7600GT board, then removed the plastic

There are a few slits in the plastic cover where I've stuck the fan.

I was thinking of putting another fan over the main intake fan to see what that would do. The tape is holding fine because its only on the cool plastic, though maybe a permanent cable tie solution would be best.
Used Rivatuner to increase duty cycle to 70%.

what does the heatsink of the 8800gtx look like if you take the entire plastic shroud off? maybe you can do a direct fan mount on it then?

nice little experiment paid off :)
just to tidy things up couldn't you use a couple of cable ties ;)
I used tape at first as it was an experiment, though now I'm trying to find some cable ties as I don't think it would be good if the fan dropped onto the card below lol.
Reminds me of the time I glued 2x socket7 heatsinks onto a voodoo1 for some reason lol.

Has anyone tried putting a fan direct on the heatsink? as I'm curious as to if thats much better?

So which is best for the fan direction? I'm guessing sucking away from the card as the main fan on the card is blowing the air in, so you want to remove it as quick as possible? Looks like a cool idea. :D

I think your cpu cooler needs de-dusting :p
HEY! I have a stand-up wash once a week...
oh oh fan yeah, when I first took the pic I noticed all the dust & also thought the fans were not working ...duur ..lol

nice one, maybe a lil chean of all that dust and you could lower it a few more degrees.

make sure if you're putting a fan over the cooler fan that they are the same kinda rpm, and push the same cfm cause if not it might not make a big or any difference at all.
tbh i think you would be better mounting a 120mm fan on some sort of aluminium bracket or something just pointing at the cooler so there is just more air blowing over the heatsink and into the fans
