i dont know what to do!

ive got my opty running at 2.9 stable, i can get it to boot into windows at 3.1 so im sure i can get it stable at 3.0 with a bit of effort,

so am i better off with a clocked opty, or a dual core even though it might not be a good clocker?

depends what you do really...

If nearly all your time is spent running single programs then its fine.

If, on the other hand, you're like and you're trying to burn a cd, rip some music and watch a movie simultaneosly then dual core is the way to go.

Or you could get a dual core Opteron (model 165 and above) and clock it like mad

As chex says, it depends on what you do and how you use your computer. For (most) games, right now your Opteron will be the best option. If you don't normally use the PC for other (non-gaming) heavy processing, or if you don't normally multi-task while doing heavy processing, then the Opteron will be the best option.

im thinking about putting my other opteron 146 which is good for 2.8 in this rig for gaming, and selling the 148 for a dual core that would be used in my other pc thats only used for audio recording/producing.

ive posted up an add on the wanted forum for a swap, 148 opty for a x2 3800 that will clock to 2.5/2.6 , do you think this is a fair swap? how much should the opty fetch on mm or ebay?

id love to go for the opteron 165 but its a bit out of budget really.

thanks for the replys

Going by the prices on OCUK, then taking the the two guaranteed clocks in consideration, that seems like a fair enough swap.
