I'm thinking of upgrading my rig to a 2500k but want to go with 16GB RAM as I do a fair bit of work with virtual machines and such.

How do 2500K's clock with 16GB RAM vs 8GB RAM? I've had issues getting some Core i7 920's stable with all of the RAM slots filled.

Cheers

Sandybridges setups are far more forgiving when clocking with all the DIMM slots filled compared to the i7 920.

Some members have added 4 sticks and not had any issues with existing clocks - forum member Justintime springs to mind.

If you're after a modest/mederate clock it shouldn't be an issue - but no guarantees of course - but you should certainly fare better than a i7920 using all 4 slots.

Use photoshop CS5 a lot, built a pc around a 2500k & Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 with 16gb of Corsair XMS3 memory, no issues, runs fine.

Right Surveyor, I will continue... interrupted by the phone, I'm currently running at 4.2 with 1.250 vcore, no other changes.

I can run at 4.5ghz, but I'm waiting to get a H100, as current cpu cooler fan holder broken & can fall off.

I got a I5 2500k clocked to 4.6 with Corsair Vengeance Blue 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz.
No problems with it at all
