My spec is:

E6600 - Scythe Ninja
Gigabyte DS4 - F5Bios
2gb Geil Ultra PC6400 Cas4

I can't get my cpu stable beyond 2.9ghz??? Bios is showing only 28deg idle at 2.9ghz!

The vcore is set to the board std which is 1.325v

If I try and increase it to something like 1.45v, all I get is 1 long beep (nothing in manual for this btw) and then it re-starts and re-sets the cmos!

Currently I have the system bus set to 320mhz and the ram on 2.5x (but lowered to 2x when clocking), ram is set to 2.1v

Any ideas????????????????????????

You should be able to get a lot further than that.

have a read of the DS3 overclocking thread and that'll give you a good guide to get started...

Have u tried incrementing the voltage up slowly?

Are u trying to clock from the bios or easytune?
Clocking from bios **** easytune!

Any attempt to change vcore results in not booting, even from 1.325 to 1.35

I know..... I'd like to get the ram to 1:1 tbh, but that will mean 3.6ghz on the cpu which I think may be pushing it a bit for air cooling....

As soon as I go above 320mhz on the sys bus the machine bcomes unstable so it must need more juice, but it won't let me juice it up....

I have been told that around 1.45v should let me get the most out of it!

BTW, I did give easytune a try, but any changes I made in that did not change the actual PC settings.... Waste of time IMO

try 2.2v

and up your MCH and FSB to 0.10v

I've also had better results with Bios F5c - So you might want to try that at a later stage

Make sure your Ram timings are not too tight.

Also - trying disabling 'Legacy USB Detect'

Found a sweet point from the bios with my setup and then continue overclock with easytune to 4.1ghz

4.1Ghz??? is this 100% stable?

What cooling are you using?

...sorry what CPU is this again??

Stable is a debateable term. Superpi no comes with errors. All other tests yea and max temp so far 53c. :p

I have same setup as yours and if it's like mine 1.45v will not get you to 3.6ghz...more like 3.3-4ghz if your lucky... 3.6ghz @ 1.5+.....i run mine 24/7 8x460 =3.2 @ 1.39v and have acheived a highest overclock with 9x multi @ 3.770 with 1.55v....but will need water cooling for that kind of heat....all vcore mentioned is set in bios exept 24/7 o/c which 1.39 is cpu-z = 1.425 in bios.

How????

I can't even drop my CPU multi from 9x to 8x or 7x, the whole machine just locks if I do!

Hi....first of if you tried what i first put here it would not get in to windows with mine either but did with f3....anyway try these settings to start...works for me no probs.....

The only way I can get 3.8 out of my x6800 is if I have the vcore set to 1.5v which is the max Intel recommend for Conroe chips

To me stable isn't really debateable - I need a machine that is 100% stable.
Doesn't crash, doesn't slow down and doesn't error out.
If any of the above happen then it isn't stable....just my opinion of course.

I have a quite similar list of equipment:

DS4 (Running F5, although I've had equal success on all BIOS since F1)
E6600
Zalman Cooler
4GB Geil PC800 DDR2

I currently run my system at 3.2Ghz 24/7 and it is 100% stable.
Everything is at default with the exception of giving the memory a +.3v in the BIOS to give it the 2.1v it wants.
My memory is running at 4-4-4-12 1:1

So I think that is something like a 356 FSB
A rather modest overclock compared to some that I've seen out there, however this is rock solid and 100% stable.

Gains in using 7x multi from 9x is you get up to 2000mb/s bandwidth extra. :)

Edit: running at 3.2ghz

Maybe your temps are to high... have you already tried using Core Temp/Everest to check your temps? I'm sure it wont be that but okay, you never know. I'm on a stock cooler and it gets above stressed 55C.. which is compared to my 3ghz northwood on 35C, high. Maybe you shouldn't increase voltage and just try till how it gives you errors, also do manually ram latencies.
