Hi guys,

Right, I have ordered a 500GB hard drive that will replace my current one which is quite loud and was thinking of how to get all my stuff across.

I currently have acronis and there is an option to clone the hard drive. Does this mean that it will copy EVERYTHING from my current hard drive to my new one?

And if it does, will any data be corrupted or is it just a straight up copy? Are there any risks involved?

Cheers :)

when you do this though do you need to make a fresh install of windows as well?

I'm thinking of doing this as my HDD is playing up too, but I purchased windows 7 online and downloaded it with a CD key and would rather not have to burn it to a disk and then reinstall etc.

No you don't need to do a fresh install. That's the whole point in cloning the drive, to save the hassle from doing it.

If you do want to reinstall. Don't clone the drive, just copy files over in the standard way using a pen drive or external hdd etc.

Does acronis sort out partition alignment on restore?, ssd recently died so rebuilt on a hdd and have since bought acronis home 11.
i'd rather clone the system back on to the replacement ssd than waste another weekend rebuilding.
