Cloning all contents from one drive to another

I want to transfer all the contents including Win XP from my old 20gd hdd to a new 160gb hdd (with the intention of getting rid of the 20gb and not have to re-install everything on the new hdd).

I managed to clone (with Norton Ghost 2003) the old hdd to the new one.

When I disconnect the old hdd and connect the new hdd as Master (also fixing up the jumper setting) and try to boot with it i am getting the following error on startup: " Disk boot failure, insert System Disk & press enter".

Any ideas why my new hdd won't' boot up. I was under the impression that once you clone and switch from one hdd to another it should work perfectly!

Perhaps the MBR is missing. Are you sure it copies ALL partitions from the old disk to the new one?

It's the first time I ever used Norton Ghst 2003 and cloned a hdd.

What is an MBR?

MBR - Master Boot Record.

Easy fix
> boot with Windows CD
> Press R to enter recovery console when prompted
> type "fixmbr"
> reboot, done

If it still doesnt work, it wasnt an MBR problem

i use an acronis true image bootable cd to clone one drive to another, it installs the raid/sata drivers for you if it needs them, so can transfer from ide to a sata channel if you need to do that
