Was wondering how do licenses work in cloning systems in workplace/university setting. Where most programs require you to enter a license/cd key before they are installed, so how are licenses worked out if you want to create an image with all the required software and re-distribute it between several machines?

Unless a program has hardware based activation a clone will copy all installs, product key and all and shouldn't have an issue. Also bare in mind that some programs may talk to a network licence server which could also cause issues, but it all depends what you have installed.

As for the licence itself, obviously make sure your compliant.

So basically the whole process involves installing only the software with static license/key (say you bought program x for 20 pc's and they all use the same license) while all the dynamic ones need to be done manually?

It uses the same licence key, not the same licence. It all depends on the program as to the specifics.

coolio, was going to mention ms products being less slippery when imaging lots of times, license wise it can get expensive.

Im using ms imagex as it works with xp and vista for our future builds. (not in education though, im evaluating other options to ghost for our engineers in house machine building)
