Cloning VMs with ESXI

I have 2 servers with ESXI. I need to clone the VMs to form a redundant backup. It seems I need vCenter server to clone using this method: http://www.mustbegeek.com/clone-virtual-machine-in-vmware-vcenter/

I believe veem only works with the paid ESXI version, we only have the free ones?

vSphere Server Standard seems a lot cheaper?

My goal is DR across 2 sites. There are less then 30 VMs so I could do this manually once a week. ATM I am using Trilead to backup the VMs to the remote site which is time consuming and does not actually setup ESXI automatically.
