Hi all,

This may or may not be a daft question, but has anyone successfully changed the tubes on a closed loop system? as I have never come in contact or seen one, I dont know if the tubes are completely sealed to the point where you can mod them for them clear tubes?

I have been looking at one of the Corsair models.

Do you mean a sealed system that isn't intended to be maintained by the end user and not "closed loop", as I'd imagine 99.9% of watercooling setups on here are "closed loop".

ok then a sealed system :) just wondering if it is possible to change the tubes even they are meant to be sold with the intention of no user maintenance.

I seem to remember seeing a youtube video possibly of someone who put clear tubes on! Will see if I can find it.
Just searching Corasir H50 mod in youtube gave lots of similar videos. I know it's an older one, but similar principle I guess.

I will have a look to see if I can see anything, I may not go for it if I want the option of expanding my water cooling, then again I may just go for a simple set-up. I just didnt want the black non-transparent tubes.

I found a few links on this and have some stuff on its way to try.

It is definatly possible.

I need to change the 120mm Rad to a 92mm one so have to diconnect and drain the tubes then reconnect and refill.

I will document and take photos as I go.
My plan is to remove the current tubes, then put new ones on with a T branch at the top-most tube and add a fill port. I'm expecting the hardest part to be re-filling the system without damaging the pump.

You can, but it needs modding. I've seen some with cable ties

But a 120mm rad won't really be enough to cool 2 components so no point unless you have a H100 you're willing to (potentially) destroy...

Should be easy, just hold it upside down and fill the rad as much as possible :)

That OcUK Techs lab set-up looks ok, to be honest I am just going to scout around on the MM I think for the bits and stick to custom loop.

Wouldn't it be simpler, allot less hassle not to mention potentially cheaper just to buy this:

Personally, I don't have that option as I don't have room for a res or seperate pump as mine is going into a Shuttle, so the big plus for me is the CPU block with pump combo and as you can't buy those except within a sealed system I have had to buy one of those.

I have brought the OCUK one at £40 and found a 92mm Rad in Germany for £30 plus a couple of pounds for some new tube. I'm hopeful that the Rad will fit inside the Shuttle and just replace the I.C.E. standard fitting.

Edit...
I have to agree for the OP the sealed systems are not really good enough for thier needs... I don't think they would cope with doing more than the CPU

If you manage to pull it off please post pics :)

Hopeful to get a full custom loop in later this year my self, really looking forward to it, I just know all in all its going to cost me near £500 :(

Good call :D

What are you planning to cool BTW?

£400 gets you some of the best gear needed, even less if you don't want fancy stuff :)

Yeah but I've also got to factor in a case to house it all, been looking at an Elysium with a 360 and 240 rads for cooling CPU plus a pair of GPU's I've yet to buy, from what I've seen the GPU blocks alone are going to be ~£140 for the pair :)

All in good time though, may just be a gradual build, CPU and a single rad first and then build from that.

How much do you guys think I could pick up a respectable minimal setup in the MM for? I dont want a double rad, and just want the bare essentials with a small pump, enough to get me going for CPU only at this stage, then to be added to, how much am I looking at realistically?
