Closed Loop Watercooling Question

Hey Guys

So i'm building a new computer for 2014 and i have never had a closed loop water cooling for my CPU before, my friend has picked out two and i really like both of them but i have a few questions

I was going to go for this cpu watercooler:

I am a little unsure though of how it clamps to the CPU, like i was going to get the NZXT Kraken because of it's clamp

Does the OCUK one do something similar?

The overclockers fathoms are by far the best performance you can get from a closed loop, mainly because they have taken customer loop parts and made them a into a really good closed loop solution. The pump/CPU block they use is:

And as you can see it uses the brackets to screw down, it would be impossible to keep it on the chip without a bracket! :p

As reaper said they use the coolermaster eisberg pump/block. It will come with all you need. Its a very good AIO. Well worth the money imo. It has both the performance and the style...

Just make sure, if tour going for the sr1 option going will fit in your case..

Read the small print about having to possibly top up the OCuk kit with the CM Eisberg pump. If that doesn't put you off then maybe you really have the confidence to do your own loop or buy a different kit from OCuk with a dual bay reservoir & pump.

It's definitely worth talking things through, as once you hit 100 posts you could well lose the dreaded P&P ;)

A new thread about what the PC is for might help you out a lot, please include a budget if you do or link me if you have a thread lol You might even be better off getting the Haswell i7K bundled with the H100i which is a true closed loop cooler depending on your needs.

Thanks very much, i am going to be picking the PC up from the shop so that will cut out the delivery charges, hopefully that should stop any bubbles and the need for topping it up as well because i've never used watercooling before and wouldn't feel comfortable opening it and topping it up

I think you'd be better off with the H100i and i7K bundle then fella if you are dead against topping it up. I'm sure it could well be fine but OCuk have to cover themselves. Watch on youtube any guide to watercooling and you soon see them flipping the case over and jiggling it around to get bubbles moving and out the system.....it can take some time.

You should go into more detail on your thread too buddy. What resolution panel are you using? A single 780Ti will only really be tested above 1080P. The AMD 290 offers great bang for buck but I'm not onboard with the naff reference cooler.

For what you wanted to pay I can do a similar spec for less cash with a 1440P Panel inc. to justify the 780Ti and the SLi requirements......

You're welcome and thanks for the compliment Ether :) You only have the single 120GB SSD and no other storage though? :confused:

I got the impression he wanted to RAID the 250GB SSDs and have 3TB of storage. The OS is missing too but I'll take this time to mention the windows 8.1 trial he can use for free over 3 months. If he truly hates 8 with the improvements he can buy 7 no harm done in the new year. I like things to look tidy but I very rarely "waste" cash on fans and braided extensions, although I do admit it looks nice. The fans would pay for the OS and the extensions/lighting would have paid for some storage in my eyes. Other than that I think it looks boss with some nice peripherals too....good job :)

He said it will be a number of weeks before he does the build. Plenty of time to decide how to balance things out, prices will change so nothing is set in stone anyway. I've now seen preview pics of the 290 with non reference cooling so maybe.....just maybe he might have that to consider instead of the 780Ti when the time comes ;)

I really look forward to seeing how it turns out :D
