I'm after sometihng like Settlers 2 but a bit more modern in the graphics department.

I know there are more recent Settlers game but I'm led to believe these have turned more towards RTS than the kind of community management you used to get in Settlers 2.

Anyone got any recommendations for me?

Hmm, settlers 2 was the best in the series really... 3 was a step back but anyway, apparently The Settlers: Rise of an Empire was the latest title in the series released just one and a half years ago.

Yeah but the trailer for that has some RTS stuff in it from what I can see :(

I think I'm going to have to re-install Settlers 2 10th anniversary, to see what it is like, I absolutely loved Settlers 2

Get the demo then (Settelrs 2 10'th), tried it for a bit and got mixed results. From my memory, I don't remember the game being so dull. Yeah not much has changed since other then graphics, but it just didn't feel right.

I mean lets face it, old games are awesome, but they are awesome in our memory... Since then, games evolved to have more and better features. Just remaking the same thing just feels bland...

Think some time il try a demo of the latest one if I can find, or even remember to look for it.

Knights and Merchants is similar, but a bit tougher.

Oh god, I hated K&M, so much. It was a great idea but the AI whether for your guys or the enemy was pants on head retarded most of the time, and just plain retarded the rest of the time. Archers especially, just refused to shoot anything and went into mele 95% of the time.

I loved the idea of it, kind of Settlers but a bit better. But the AI was it's major downfall.

Never order archers to attack. Just move em in range and pointed in the right direction. Never ever order your archers and crossbows to attack.

When it's played in mp it's much better.

That is called a bug :)

Bah, I've got a chubby for playing this now. How does 10th Anni differ from the original?

Well not in much at all, it is just mostly 3d, with a bit more then generic green for grass textures, which now make it harder to see possible building locations.

There maybe a few more subtle things, such as ability to extend your guard posts, so you can expand fast with simple guard posts, and then upgrade them when you find enemy.

Removes the need to know the map before hand, good feature. There may be more others which I haven't seen, but other then that it is pretty much the same.

Oh, just don't zoom in on the sawmill, the sound is horrendous... I am tempted to buy it if I find it on steam/gog, but will see if I can get a demo of the one after that just to see.

I think if you know some people to play multiplayer with with 10'th anniversary, it could be quiet good fun.

Try "Cultures 2". It's very much like settlers.
Graphics are pretty nice too.
