Closing a Gmail account

I cannot seem to find the option to do this? The method shown when I Google search for this does not give me an option to close the account?

just stop using it ? once it has been inactive for long enough then your account will be closed anyways.

Login, go to account options and choose the option to "close your account" or something like "end google service"

It is there as i have done it.. when u login top right account options or something along those lines :/
