Closing PayPal credit

Hey,

I opened a PayPal credit account a couple of years back during an Apple 0% finance offer. It's had a zero balance for a long time now and I'd completely forgotten about it until recently when asked if I wanted to use PayPal credit on an eBay purchase.

I've emailed through their message center 3 times over the course of a month, and each time it gets ignored, yet another help ticket I had open recently at the same time got answered and resolved almost immediately. I've called twice, and each time I get told I'm being put through to the relevant person and it holds for ages, then eventually I get cut off.

I've read online how difficult they make it close it, but really didn't expect it to be this hard :D

Anyone ever closed one and how did you manage it? Any other steps I can take to get it closed if the two channels of communication they offer seem hopeless.

Thanks

Glad I gave this a swerve and used a CC instead, as closing it would have been my top priority too once I'd paid it off.

Put it in writing and send via recorded delivery?

Without wanting to sound ignorant, if it's not being used and has zero balance, what's the issue? Just wanting to tidy up your financial trail?

It's like having an unused credit card sat in a drawer.

Having an unused credit account (or any financial account for that matter) can have consequences in certain circumstances. Some lenders may look more favourably on you as you're seen to be able to handle more credit, others may look unfavourably as you're already handling "too much" in their eyes.

Not saying it's always right or wrong to close such accounts, but I think it depends a lot on the person.

I'm applying for a mortgage so want any unused credit closed, otherwise as you said, it wouldn't bother me :)

Fair enough.

Let us know how you get on. I currently have an active PP credit (same as you for 0% Apple Finance) so am interested to know if you are successful.

I sent them a webnote stating that I wished for them to cancel my £100 account. I also followed that up with a request, via email, for them to cancel the account. It was done within 72 hours.

Someone here work at PayPal? :D

Just received a message out the blue today saying my account has now been closed. What timing

Usually if someone like this pops up I put it in writing and recorded delivery. They can't then really ignore it.
