Hey
I’ve seen a few threads on this topic, but most are over a year old, and a lot has changed.
Also this is an investment so would love opinions of those far more knowledgeable than me!
I'm looking to get lifetime storage. Currently I am stuck between Filen.io and Icedrive.
My aim is to have a main storage location for all my family’s data.
My plan would be to have one main account, and then each family member their own.
The main account (10TB) would then share the relevant folders to each person, with some of the children’s access set to read only.
Currently, Icedrive allows basic file and folder sharing as read only or full edit.
Filen.io however does not. It does state on their roadmap that they will be releasing ‘Spaces’ with advanced ‘Work and Family’ sharing capabilities.
Both offer (while on sale) 10TB at a similar price.
Filen is open source.
Icedrive has a better UI, and it’s Windows drive mapping is slightly…. Nicer…?
Filen also has mounted drives, and works well on Linux, unlike Icedrive which only has a ‘webwrapper’ app.
Filen has more connectivity.
Filen’s stacking is very clear, whereas IceDrive is very…. Shady about how theirs works.
Also Filen’s referral scheme is pretty cool.
Although I rarely see anything negative about either, I do tend to see people lean towards Filen.
What do people think?
1. Go with IceDrive for it’s current functionality?
2. Go with Filen for its current open source, connectivity and future functionality?
3. Wait for Filen to release Spaces?
Thanks!!
