I nearly lost a lot of important data and can to the realisation that I need to had a backup data. Is cloud based backup the way forward or to elevate security fears local storage the best method?

Ideally I would like to have access to my work from any location but I've never really delved into this until now.

If cloud base storage is a viable option are there any serious recommendations? I have been looking at dropbox. I'll give google drive a miss as they seem to have ethical issues in regards to collecting data but I could be wrong. Naturally I would like good security if cloud base with a fast upload capability.

Thanks again.

What is good depends on what you want.

How much data, how often you want to access it and where from. Do you want a simple offsite backup, or a full sync that carries your data across multiple PC's?

I use dropbox for all my important bits. None of the media is in the cloud because I don't need it to be.

Most cloud solutions come with some accepted loss of control/security of your data. Google are no worse than others in this respect.

I would consider the following
How important is it that no one else gets hold of the data, ie is it data that might be for your eyes only?

how much data is there to back up, if there isnt a lot, you can consider both a local and cloud backup, as if 1 fails, you have the other to fall back on

Yes it would be important document data and I would be at various locations where I would need access to this information at any time. I'll give dropbox a try and see how it goes. Is syncing relatively quick using this tool?
