Cloudy Picture when using Mini Display port to Display port cable

Hi guys

Just playing around with my LG29EA93-P Ultra Wide monitor, have it plugged into the display port, using Mini Display port to Display port cable from my macbook pro retina, the picture seems VERY cloudy when i use this cable, but find when i use HDMI as an output.

I was under the impression that using the display port was the best way to get the full resolution on this monitor. But its an Awful awful picture when i do :(

any ideas
 
I don't know why this would be, could be a problem with the ports or the cable I guess. When you say cloudy what do you mean? If it seems blurry then I'd check for overscan settings on both the computer and the monitor, if the colours seem really wonky then I'd check input mode on the monitor and output from the computer, they should both be using 0-255 colour, might be called PC mode on the monitor or something.

Hopefully someone who knows more than me can help you... I'm pretty novice at monitor chat. Sorry! :(
