Man my three clown loaches died. Everything was going well. They seemed to be happy all water levels were fine temp was good then one day I woke up and they had a terrible case of ich.

I up the temp to try and speed up the development of the parasities and I used what I was advised by the LFS to be a safe ich treatment for clown loach's. To be on the safe side I slightly underdosed the water with the treatment as I know how bad this stuff can be for scaleless fish.

I went to bed and got up the next day and all three were dead. :(

Guess you can't win them all. I really liked those guys very fun fish. Today is a sad day.....

clown loaches are renown for getting white spot, slightest temperature change or little disturbance will trigger it off and once they get it its seriously hard to get rid of it.Best treatments for white spot are copper based treatments but unfortunatly you cant use copperbased treatments with clown fish, some people will resort to salt water dips but its unlikely a clown will survive one:(if your new to keeping tropical start with some hardyer ones m8.if you insist on clown fish though try using R.O water instead of tap water,i used it for my reef setup,is about 50p a gallon if i remember rightly but its worth it,just add the mineral powder warm it up to the right temp and your good to go,also make sure your ph is bang on,a lot of people over look that, worth getting a good test kit if you havent allready;)

yeah man cheers. The PH was sitting at 7.2 and the ammonia was sitting at 0. All the other levels KH, GH, Nitrites and Nitrates were all in acceptable levels.

I considered the salt route but decided against it. I have some tetras still in the tank but not sure what to go for next. Might just stick to some guppies or something.

Does anyone else have any good suggestions for hardy community tank fish

aviod molly's allso prone to white spot, silver sharks were ok if i remember rightly, catfish (pleco's etc) a very hardy and good for tank maintenance:)also most gourami are pretty hardy.Oscars are a cool hardy fish but you would have to keep them on there own and have a fairly large tank, what i would do m8 is get yourself some plants found in the amazon, buy some drift wood from your local aquatics shop and bang in some tetras, themed tanks can look really smart, the wood will stain the water slightly and it can look very realistic.
