Coming up the M1 around an hour ago in fairly heavy traffic, behind me is a Grey Seat Leon with the headlights flashing alternately, everyone was moving aside, I assumed it was plod and did so too

As he went past I had a good look, no blue lights, no aerials, no rear shelf sign and nothing that looked like old bill inside ( yellow vests etc )

so was it a copper, an idiot with his way of cutting through traffic or some other expanation ?

Paramedic? / Doctor etc?

I say this as I know of a consultant with an e46 M3 & the sort of flashing headlamps you describe, he uses them when responding to RTA's & the like.

(and probably when running late! :D )

I wondered the same thing just now actually.. On the M3 southbound (just past J1) and an old Passat with flashing blue headlights, followed by what looked like a new Corsa SRI (wasn't a VXR) with flashing front and rear lights went past.. Not the normal un-marked cars you usually see. They were followed shortly after by a Police bike so I presume real..

more than likely some sort of drugs and/or serious crime unit, tend to use unusual cars to get quickly from place to place.

Some forces use them as Panda cars, yup. Usually marked though, although Devon and Cornwall have an unmarked Fiesta, so I dont see why there wouldnt be the odd Corsa as well.

Strange. Its just iv seen my fair share of 'undercover police" AKA chavs in corsas with flashing grill blue LEDs.

Unusual choice of car though.

All the unmarked cars in our area have flashing headlight but then still have flashing blue's in the grill, flashing rear reds/blues or just a removable roof blue light.

I know some of the special forces don't have lights on them, but then there mostly very fast cars from the likes of the Audi RS range, sound more like a plonker who's done a little light alterations, and probably not braking any laws if he wasn't speeding ( maybe impersonating a emergency/police vehicle, but I'd had guesses a half decent lawyer could see that disappear ).

just alternate strobing headlights ?

Clown i reckon.

Un marked cars usually have at least some flashing blue lights front + rear as well as strobing headlights.

In London village yesterday when a white 03 transit with blue lights and siren overtakes traffic on the wrong side of the road, three guys in the front in hi vis jackets looking very like tarmac boys
