Bigger box!
Hi, i won't beat around the bush. I have very limited knowledge when it comes to cars so i'm after some advise.

I currently drive a big horrible old Volvo but it's costing me a small fortune in fuel. I do a lot of miles to and from work and need something that's cheap to run.

Was thinking just a little corsa is most likely to be good on fuel as they are light and have small engines. Any better suggestions?

Cheers

Id edit corsa and replace it with mondeo, else you'l get laughed out of your own thread.

And thats coming from someone who actually owns a corsa! Innit.

Yet another constructive comment in motors.

If you want cheap to run a resonable sized diesel is a good bet, focus etc. Or maybe one of the new direct injection petrols (fords sci?)

Whats your budget? and how many miles do you do? Something like a focus maybe a good suggestion.
As it's just for to and from work i'm looking for as cheap as poss, £2k max really.
I do 70 mles a day

Cheers for your suggestions so far guys :)

With only 2k you will have to look at either mondeo petrol, or 406/xantia diesel these will be your best cars at this price.

would not want to do 70 miles a day in a little car

Forget anything 2 litre if you want fuel economy... get a Rover 214.

My old one did a trip to Wales and back... I did 90mph all the way home (over 100 miles) with 3 mates in the car... the fuel gauge didn't even move.

I didn't have to fill up for another week either, and that was with around 35 litres of fuel (before we set off) in the car. Awesome stuff.
